school might be holding you back —
here's what really matters.
Hey Simplifiers,
Ever feel like you're just going through the motions with school? Wake up, go to class, do homework, and repeat. But what if I told you school could be more than just a routine? What if it’s where you set the stage not only for academic success but for life?
Let’s BFFR:
We all know that the standard one-size-fits-all approach to education doesn’t work for everyone. It misses out on what makes each of us unique. Take my friend Jake, for example. He’s a college sophomore who found the whole lecture-and-test thing just didn’t click with his hands-on learning style. So, he joined an interactive study group, and suddenly, things started making sense—and his grades shot up!
At some point, we’ve all experienced the stress of exams and grades, feeling unprepared for real-life responsibilities like taxes or budgeting. Like I get it. School can teach us AP 1 Calc but who’s teaching us how to budget?? It’s no wonder so many of us burn out. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be this way.
Let’s Rethink School Together
Instead of trying to fit into the traditional mold, why not tailor school—or any learning experience—to fit you? We're not just prepping for tests—we’re prepping for life. Here are a few tricks that could make a world of difference, whether you're in school or just looking to improve your personal growth:
Active Recall: After reading through your notes, close the book and see what you can remember. It’s a game-changer for locking in what you’ve learned.
Spaced Repetition: Spread out your study sessions over days or weeks. This way, you avoid the last-minute cramming and actually remember stuff long-term.
Time Blocking: Think of study sessions as non-negotiable appointments. It’ll help you stay focused and get more done in less time.
Interleaved Practice: Mix up different subjects in one session. It keeps your brain on its toes and improves your ability to tackle various problems.
Prioritize Well-being: Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Whether it’s a quick mindfulness break or some exercise, a little self-care goes a long way in boosting your mental game.
Ready to Take Control?
I know change can feel daunting, especially if you’re already doing okay with what you’ve got going. But why not give these strategies a try? Start small—pick a subject, project, or area of personal growth that you’re less invested in and test out one or two of these techniques. You might just find they work even better than what you’re doing now.
Oh, and speaking of time management—I've put together a handy download to help you get organized and make the most of your time.
